  • What is your favourite page turner?

    Wed 05 Feb 2020
In English, Poplar have been thinking about what makes a book so engaging and intriguing that you just can't put it down. Once we had decided, we thought about our own favourite books and what made them a page turner. Our task was to convince our partners that they should read our favourite because they are just so good!
  • Birch Created Stuck Books

    Wed 05 Feb 2020
In Birch, we have been looking at properties and materials. In this lesson, we explored which materials created the most friction. We just could not separate some of these books. Try it yourself!

  • Graffiti Maths - Elm

    Tue 04 Feb 2020

Elm class threw the rule book out of the window this afternoon and turned our tables into massive whiteboards to practice our knowledge of multiples of 8. After checking the coast was clear from Mrs Forshaw, we started writing as many multiples of 2 as we could think of, great and small, on our tables. We crossed out any that were not a multiple of 4 and extended this by working out, and circling, our multiples of 8.  We then answered number statements given to us by finding the answers on our, now heavily inked, tables.

Naturally, we cleaned up before the end of the day and no-one was any wiser about the graffiti maths we had been doing!  Don't worry grown ups, the class were given strict instructions not to try this at home.

  • Cedar Love Commutativity!

    Tue 04 Feb 2020
Cedar Class are enjoying their Maths so much at the moment. Today, everyone was so involved in drawing their arrays to show that multiplication is commutative (e.g. 3 x 4 = 4 x 3), that Mrs Laycock felt like putting her feet up with a cup of tea! Luckily, she stopped herself just in time and gave out some extra challenges instead. Well done Cedar!
  • Our Escape from Pompeii - Year 3 and 4

    Tue 04 Feb 2020

The year 3/4 corridor took part in an all-day drama activity last week, as the finale of our activities on the book 'Escape from Pompeii.' Working in teams, and using dramatic freeze-frames, fact finding and knowledge of the available technology, we created our own logistics company and created a plan to evacuate the citizens of Pompeii before Mount Versuvius erupted.

We presented our proposals to our class, who voted for their favourite, before presenting the class plan to an esteemed panel of Mrs Allen and Mrs Forshaw who had the unenviable task of picking an overall winner.

All of the staff were blown away by the teamwork professional attitude the children took to produce superb, detailed plans for the evacuation. A huge thanks to Miss Povey who masterminded the Mantle of the Expert experience.

  • A Fine Array of Division - Elm

    Fri 31 Jan 2020

We turned our hall into our book and used a maths resource we always have around…ourselves!  We became ‘The Human Division Array’ to show how division statements can be represented in arrays.

    Thu 30 Jan 2020 P Foulkes
On Monday, Maple Class showed off their talents to their parents and the children in KS1.  The class assembly on the Great Fire of London showed not only what they've learned in History but also in English, Music, Art and PE. The children were fantastic and made me very proud!
