  • Maple's Adventures at Forest School

    Mon 23 Mar 2020 P Foulkes

Last Thursday, Maple Class experienced their second day of Forest School and they were delighted to show and tell Mrs Foulkes all about it, as it was her first day.  The day started with the children playing 'Ninja Hide and Seek.' The person 'on' could not move from their spot but needed to make a ' Ninja move' and the children in hiding had to watch out for this move as they had to report this back at the end of the game.  The children found some brilliant hiding spots and at the end of each game they nearly always correctly identified the 'Ninja move.'

After this was 'creative fun time' whereby the children hunted for bugs, played with the digging and gardening equipment or made 'mud pies.'  I'll let you draw your own conclusion as to what they enjoyed the most!

After getting washed and having a snack the children hunted the clues.  Then sat around the fire-pit, they individually read out their clues and everyone guessed which animal they were describing.  We learned that foxes live in 'dens' and badgers in 'setts.'

It was an amazing morning and I'm sure you'll agree from the photographs all of the children thoroughly enjoyed themselves!

  • School Council 'Bottle Tops' Competition

    Mon 23 Mar 2020 P Foulkes

On Friday, all the bottle tops that you have been collecting, to be placed inside a metal rhinoceros in a Maghull Park, were collected from school! Councillor Frank Sharp was thrilled with the amount that we had collected  and said that Lydiate Primary School had collected the most so far.  Well done everyone!

Maple Class, weighed each classes contributions and we were so pleased and proud of so many children's efforts.  We send a big CONGRATULATIONS to Rowan Class for collecting a mammoth weight of 4400 grams and were the clear winners.

  • Going back in time to VE Day 1945!

    Mon 23 Mar 2020 P Foulkes
To commemorate a significant time in History, all the children from Nursery upto Year 6 attended a History Workshop on VE Day with Mrs Ashby.  The cost of this was  provided by the Heritage Fund.  Several children were chosen to get dressed up and played significant characters depicting the events of the 1945 VE Day.  After learning about the History, the children got to experience what it was like to be a child back in 1945 by playing with objects that children used as their toys.  We all realised that you can have fun using a paper plate and a fish cut out of paper!
  • Year 4 Testing Their Fitness

    Wed 18 Mar 2020
Year 4 used their PE lesson to test their fitness and heart rate. Before they started, they checked how many beats per minute their heart was beating. They then completed a circuit of 8 stations for a minute each. Afterwards, they checked their pulses again to see the difference exercise can make.
  • Poplar are Editing!

Poplar spent time reading their stories, reading each others and speaking them aloud to see if there was anything they could improve to make their writing better. They really enjoyed this collaborative approach.
  • VE Day Drama - Elm

    Tue 17 Mar 2020

In preparation for our exciting visit from the Real History Workshop team on Thursday, Elm class today explored VE Day and its significance to the British people.  We watched Pathé footage of Churchill's announcement and the celebrations which followed.

We tried to put ourselves in the shoes of children from that era, taking cover whenever we heard an air-raid siren and spoke about the mixed emotions that must have been felt on that day.

Later, we looked at the history of the Union Jack, making our own, and re-enacting the celebrations from the 8th May 1945 outside the classroom with wild celebrations and even a conga-line.  Sorry for the jubilant disturbance, Poplar and Cherry!
