  • Elm's Mega Number Line

    Elm class came into today to see a gigantic 5m number line dominating the classroom.  There were no raffle tickets given out to children who guessed the subject of the mathematics lesson today!

     

    Children took turns to order numbers up to 1000 on the colossal creation before applying it to their micro version in their books. 

  • Oak's gyrocopter fun!

  • Maple and Cedar used their sense of sight!

    Maple and Cedar were on the hunt for colours this afternoon. We used our eyes to find objects of certain colours.
  • Place Value Pioneers - Elm

    Elm class have settled in beautifully to Year 3, showing great maturity and a fantastic attitude towards learning. 

     

    They have safely been using different equipment to investigate the place value of 3 digit numbers and are beginning to partition these numbers in different ways.  This place value knowledge is vital to other aspects of mathematics and Elm have shown a fantastic willingness to learn new skills and techniques, as well as as completing a range of problem solving challenges.

    As part of our unit on forces, we were investigating the effects of air resistance! Did you know that everything (in a gravity field) falls at the same rate.... minds were blown when we watched a video of a hammer and a feather falling at the same speed. Good old Gallileo!
  • VE Day 2020 at Lydiate Primary

    To mark the 75th Anniversary of VE Day, the children of Key Workers and the staff team celebrated the day by making a diorama, bunting and paper chains and had a small street party.  The children all came to school wearing red. white and blue and played games that were played back in 1945.  They learned to sing a war time song 'Run Rabbit, Run Rabbit' and the Year 6 children choreographed  and taught us all a dance to the most famous war time song 'We'll Meet Again!'
