VE Day Drama - Elm

In preparation for our exciting visit from the Real History Workshop team on Thursday, Elm class today explored VE Day and its significance to the British people.  We watched Pathé footage of Churchill's announcement and the celebrations which followed.

We tried to put ourselves in the shoes of children from that era, taking cover whenever we heard an air-raid siren and spoke about the mixed emotions that must have been felt on that day.

Later, we looked at the history of the Union Jack, making our own, and re-enacting the celebrations from the 8th May 1945 outside the classroom with wild celebrations and even a conga-line.  Sorry for the jubilant disturbance, Poplar and Cherry!
