Early Years Foundation Stage
At Lydiate Primary and Nursery school we provide a safe, caring and stimulating environment in which all children can succeed. We understand the importance of purposeful play based learning and how practical, real life experiences offer the best possible context for children to make decisions, think creatively and critically and also try to meet challenges.
We believe that learning should be a rewarding and enjoyable experience in which children explore, investigate, discover, create, practice, rehearse, repeat, revise and consolidate their developing knowledge, skills, understanding and attitudes.
During the Foundation Stage, children are given the opportunity to develop their learning through playing and talking with other children and interacting with practitioners. Children will learn through a combination of play based activities which may be self chosen or adult led, and more structured whole class or small group teaching. Practitioners support learning through interacting, questioning, responding to questions, observing and assessing and reporting children’s progress.
Much of our planning arises from the personal interests of our children. The topic webs below show the themes we are following for this current year.
